Thank you, thank you – an update on the fundraiser in memory of our son

Ecstatic and overwhelmed with your generosity regarding the fundraiser in memory of our son. Trying to stay calm with the help of #embroidery #airembroideryclub

Ler em português

Thank you, thank you, thank you. These are the words I can muster in the midst of all these emotions. Last Friday, we celebrated the one year anniversary of the death of our baby boy, and launched a fundraiser in his memory, to benefit the Portuguese Red Nose foundation. Our goal is to make a donation of 2000€. And guess what? We’re two thirds of the way there, in just these very few days. I have no words to describe our gratitude.

On Saturday, as I was seeing the notifications of your donations landing in my inbox, I couldn’t help being overwhelmed with many emotions – so I turned to a little embroidery to calm me down. (It’s June’s project over at the Embroidery Club, and this time it’s an actual garment I’m embroidering on!)

Please keep helping us by donating, if possible, and sharing the fundraiser page with your own networks, via email and social media (the URL is very easy: http://www.airdesignstudio.com/daniel). And please keep checking the page to see the updated amount raised.

Thank you.

Bem hajam, queridos leitores.

Bem hajam!

Celebrating Side Projects and Entrepreneurship

Polka dots, always. #embroidery

Hi everyone! As you can see, needles are unstoppable here in the studio and there are always new products coming up.

I just wanted to share a link with you: sometime ago, I was asked to contribute with an article to the blog “On the Side Project”. Here, entrepreneurs share the stories of how they started their side projects and how their ideas progressed with time and effort.

In the article I wrote, I told the story of abbrigate*’s inception, as well as how I started the zine I write and publish monthly, called “We’re in Panama!”.

You may read the article here and check out the latest issue of my zine here.

I would love to hear from you: how did you start your own side projects? If you haven´t (yet), do you have a dream you still want to make real?

As we´ve written here before, abbrigate* was born as a fun and entrepreneurial project undertaken by two friends and partners, Joji  and Billy. We started out having lots of work paired with lots of fun, learning new things about creating and running a small-scale business and, mostly, rejoicing with every single kimono shipped to a new home. Each knitted garment felt like an accomplishment, because we truly believe that handmade goods are special and unique.

But life takes its turns and it is with a kind of nostalgia mixed with happiness that we have to share with you that Joji, one of the wizards behind the brand and the designer of the Baby Kimono, had to part ways with us. We´re sad to see our friend and business partner leave – doing business with Joji was fun! – but we´re happy to know she´s now fully focusing on her ongoing projects.

So, as sad as we feel to see our partner leave, we´re happy to know she´s happy and… well, she is always around when help or advice are needed. Cheers to you, Joji!

New model: sneak preview!

Hi everyone! We had a short blog-break here at abbrigate* due to a short trip to Rio de Janeiro. The weather was lovely and warm, very warm, too warm even to think about knitting, but the knitting-bug bit anyway.

As we´ve mentioned before, we´re developing a new design for older kids, which we hope to be launching very soon. We´ll be using a new yarn called Big Merino, custom dyed by Joji specially for us. It´s 100% argentine merino wool, super soft and bulky weight.

Exciting news, right? Can´t wait to share more with you. In the meantime, have a great week and thank you for stopping by!
